Yes, like all candles your first burn is the most important for the longevity of the candle. This is especially true with soy wax candles, soy wax candles burn colder than paraffin wax candles and requires a thicker wick that does not burn completely. Which is always important to trim your wick prior to burning.
When you first burn your new soy wax candle you must trim the wick to 1/4″ and allow your candle to burn for at least 2.5 – 3 hours to allow a full melt pool. Candles burned for shorter periods of time will have a “memory” of the first burn and will tunnel down the center along the wick. This tunneling effect will drastically reduce the life of the candle and may cause you to not get the best scent throw.
